What is Nexium tablet 20 mg x 14 and what is it used for:

Nexium contains a substance called esomeprazole, which belongs to a group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors. These drugs work by reducing the amount of acid that is produced by the stomach.

Nexium is used to treat the following conditions:

• “Gastro-esophageal reflux disease” (GERD). This is when stomach acid returns to the esophagus (the tube that connects your throat and the stomach), causing pain, inflammation and heartburn.
• Ulcers in the stomach or upper small intestine that are infected with a bacterium called Helicobacter pylori. If you have this condition, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics to treat the infection so that the ulcer could heal.
• Gastric ulcers in adults caused by medicines called NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). Nexium can also prevent the formation of stomach ulcers if you are taking NSAIDs.
• Excessive acid in the stomach caused by a formation in the pancreas (Zollinger-Ellison syndrome).
• Continued treatment after therapy to prevent re-bleeding from ulcers with intravenous Nexium.

Nexium 20 mg gastro-resistant tablets are light pink engraved with EN on one side and 20 mg on the other. They are produced in blister packs, placed in cardboard boxes, which contain 14 tablets.
