Angiotensin II is a substance produced in the body that binds to receptors in blood vessels and causes them to constrict. As a result, the pressure in the blood vessels increases. Losartan prevents the binding of angiotensin II to these receptors, relaxing the blood vessels, and this, in turn, leads to a decrease in blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide stimulates the excretion of water and salt as it passes through the kidneys.
